i think you do have to pull that down a little bit. i do believe that mitt romney has not demonstrated that he's agile. he's not kind of light on his feet. so the idea that if you had a tough spot in a debate, whether the moderator pushed or obama pushed and could romney not talking from zingers that he's rehearsed, not talking from talking points, be agile enough to say i can answer these questions because these are my convictions. i think romney's biggest problem is a lack of conviction. he kind of operates and looks as if he's wearing someone else's skin and he's talking using someone else's beliefs. >> ross, what do you make of that? i think barack obama definitely the last time he did this four years ago, he showed flashes of a temper. which if i was in the romney camp, i would be just keep goading him. i'm sure that's what they are trying to calm down in the obama camp, don't lose your temper. romney is pretty cool. i watched him under fire in the republican nominee debates. he was a pretty cool customer. obama can get rattled. >

, really, mitt romney. it was so awful. you could have thought in previous election campaigns that could have been the game changer. looking at it now in totality, barack obama's poor performance at the debate has been more damaging to him than the 47% was to mitt romney. >> i think potentially. look, the debate was watched by 70 million people which is a lot more than the 47% tape. so a lot of good momentum that obama had in september was undone in an hour and a half. that was a very damaging evening for the president. at the same time, it's not likely we will talk about the denver debate as a lead story one or two weeks from now. something new will take its place. maybe it's a good story for obama, maybe not. but voters' memories will fade some. that's why we do look at the long term and also the economic numbers where obama did get one good piece of news where with the unemployment rate falling below 8%. we now think the economy's good enough where he's probably a narrow favorite on that basis. the numbe

completely from mitt romney. i just thought it looked strange. >> yeah. you know, his body language, what told an incredible story, the way he communicated last night said more than he actually said with his mouth. maria said he looked into the camera. he was looking down at his notepad way more than he was looking into the camera and his body language basically said you know, i'm not interested in being here, i'm irritated i have to be here, i'm going to argue with the moderator for five seconds and i'm going to, you know, really just kind of check out of the debate. he was totally disengaged last night, and i think it was because he was in shock. mitt romney went on offense from the very beginning of the debate -- >> okay, but let me jump in there. let me ask maria that. why on earth would barack obama be in shock that mitt romney was attacking him given it's exactly what mitt romney did in the entire republican debate race, particularly in florida against newt gingrich, as he said earlier. did he not watch tho
